Our Whole Lives (OWL)

OWL is a secular, comprehensive sexuality education program developed by the UU and UCC faith communities. It is considered to be one of the best sexuality education curricula available, according to professionals in the field of sexual health.  The program helps participants make informed, responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It equips our youth with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. OWL provides not only facts about anatomy and human development, but helps to clarify values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality. The OWL program considers sexuality education to be a lifelong process, and so it is taught in pieces over the years that children participate in the South Church Religious Education program. We offer age-based sessions for Kindergarten through high school at varying frequencies.

Classes are taught by a team of adults in our South Church community who have completed an extensive OWL teacher training program in addition to the South Church teacher training program. The facilitators are Safer Congregation screened adults and are supported by the Religious Education staff. There are always two facilitators co-leading our sessions.
