Summer ’25 nUUs from Religious Education

Sleepy departure from our beloved home base

Church Math:

18 Teenagers + 9 Adults + 2 Vans + 1 Big House = 1 Successful, Exhausting, Bucket-Filling Youth Trip To Baltimore

4 Volunteers + 24 Children + ∞Bubbles + XHandmade Pinwheels + 3 Games + Snacks = A Bunch Of Fun Summer Sunday RE Mornings So Far

85 South Church Folks Ages 1 to 80 + 450 Lime Rickeys + 3 Days of Ideal Weather = 70 Hours of Quality Connection Time On Star Island

Now a Church Math Challenge for you:

Q: A person connects with South Church and they take two dozen gluten-free cookies to social hour, on their way to volunteering to play in RE. How many possibilities for participating in building a solid community will exist if there are 400 other people who are also connected to that church?

A: There will be infinite possibilities to be part of building a strong and healthy community that can help sustain when the world seems pretty dark.

We are very busy preparing for a fantastic new church year, which will begin with Water Ingathering on September 7th. Age- and theme-based Religious Education groups will begin later that month.

We need adults who are interested in participating with our kids! No experience needed, scheduling is flexible, and we will give all the support you need. PLEASE REACH OUT to let us know you would like to explore what might be a good fit! jendeldeo@resouthchurchuu.org

Also, for the immediate future, we will be running our Roots Summer Program Aug 11-15! We are looking for adult and teen volunteers to help with fun activities, games, and before and after care. If you have a time slot or more that you could come play with us, please reach out ASAP to JenDB! Fun and joy are guaranteed!

Bottom line is that RE opportunities at South Church are a magical way of filling your bucket if you are feeling stressed, tired, sad, frustrated with the news, or really for any kind of way you are feeling. Volunteerism can feel unappetizing when we are already feeling at capacity, but it can actually often increase our capacity for holding hard things because of the perspective and joy it can bring. Give us a try!

It’s RE Registration Time!

It is already time to register all children and youth again for the ’25/’26 church year! We do annual registrations so we can stay updated on how to best serve children, youth, and families. Please take just a few minutes to register all kids ages birth through 18. It’s easy and helps us tremendously, including help with program planning. There are no obligations for attendance once you register, and we never share your info. You can complete an easy form online at https://southchurchuu.wufoo.com/forms/k60588f1mfaort/ or pick up a paper version at church. THANK YOU!!

Summer Church Theme Is ”Play!”

All summer, we hold an all-ages RE option during worship. Kids meet either downstairs or outdoors, depending on weather and planned activities. These sessions are light and fun, focused on community building and joy. Alternatively, children are always invited to remain in the sanctuary for the duration of worship.

Also, check out our lending library table near the big desk downstairs, for a rotating selection of kids’ social justice books that are available to borrow! Please sign the books out, and then bring them back and sign them in within a few weeks so that others may enjoy them.
