Weaving Community at Roots Summer Program

It’s been a fun a light summer at church, with playful all-ages RE sessions outdoors during worship each week. Plus, we had our first-ever Roots Summer Program week in August and it was SO MUCH FUN!! We worked together to create healthy, affirming relationships while playing, creating, and exploring. We are excited to offer Roots again next summer, so stay tuned for registration opening in early January!

Now it’s time to settle back into some structure and active learning, with summer fading into the rear view. That doesn’t mean the fun will stop. Not at all. It means we will find interesting and creative ways to strengthen our UU identity and deepen our connections to each other while growing in a thousand kinds of ways.

Sunday, September 7th is our annual Water Ingathering worship. This marks the official start of the church year. Everyone is invited to bring in a small container of water from your favorite places–beaches you’ve visited over the summer, a mountain stream, your own kitchen sink–anywhere you’d like. We will combine all of the water, adding in some from all previous years of this tradition. We then use this special potion-elixir-sacred solution in ceremonies and rituals like baby dedications, bridging, and more.

New, this year, we are SO EXCITED to offer Maxwell’s Sundae Bar at social hour after Water Ingathering worship! We’ll have ice cream and all the toppings, including gluten free and dairy free options! Bring you family, bring your friends! This celebration is open to ALL!

Registering for the RE Year

Our regular Religious Education programs will begin in a few weeks. Please register your kids so we can plan our classes and keep everyone safe and connected. Registration is easy and does not come with any obligations: https://southchurch-uu-re.org/re-registration-for-children-and-youth/

Events Coming Up:

  • Sunday 9/21 RE Volunteer Training and Lunch 12:00-2:00. This is for new AND returning Religious Education volunteers. We will go over safety policies, get tips for guiding sessions, and do some scheduling. It’s not too late to join a volunteer team, we still have some spots to fill! You do NOT need to have experience and the schedule is flexible! Commitment is 1 to 2 Sundays per month. To learn more, reach out to JenDB
  • Friday 9/26 Sparks & Flames Game and Snackfest Night for any kids in grades 5 through 8! Kids can also bring their friends! Just RSVP by 4pm Weds 9/23: jendeldeo@southchurch-uu.org 
  • Saturday 9/27 Families Tuugether free babysitting night! Parents gather for a time of connection before heading out for a couple of hours, while we play with your kids! For families with kids ages 3 months and older. RSVP by 4pm Thurs 9/25

    • Water Ingathering Worship at 10:00a, in person and live on YouTube. This is a multigenerational worship, so all children remain in the sanctuary. There are no RE classes today.
    • Nursery is not staffed today–babies and toddlers should stay in worship!
