Update on ‘Virtual’ General Assembly 2020: June 24-28th, 2020. We are going to figure out a system to be able to check in as a group during the course of the event, maybe even some watch parties for workshops/events that we want to attend together. There are some REALLY cool offerings with some amazing things to learn about… I encourage ALL of you to check it out (parents, too!) this is a totally different format, but I think it could be really meaningful!
Mark your calendars:
- June 14th 11a-12noon GA Logistics/prep mtg for anyone attending. (but please contact Kirsten directly by June 1st so she knows your intentions 🙂
Catching you up: Hi all, thank you for your patience as this journey planning was thrown up in the air and we have been trying to find time to get back to sweeping up the pieces!
Money update: The funds we raised this year amounts to about $3,000. Any youth who would like to attend the virtual GA this year, we can help cover that cost! and the rest our our raised funds will roll over to our next learning journey.
Deposits: I will be catching up on refunding family deposits for our now cacelled trip to Providence in early June (after we get bridging pulled together). Thank you for your patience on that!
I had reserved an airbnb in Providence months ago for our group to use as a home base, and as the Corona Virus hit there was a period of time where it looked like the hosts of that property were going to refuse to refund our deposit (about $3,000) but I finally heard back from the airbnb review process and we have been granted a refund!! PHEW!!
Virtual youth programming at GA According to the folks at the UUA, “the GA Youth Staff have been working to put together what was most essential to youth programming, and really hone in on that. This year GA youth will very much focus in on worship, spiritual growth, community building, and participation in the GA voting business, with a thru-line centering Indigenous people and youth of color. There will be drop in spaces, a dance night, game night, worships, identity caucusing, and shared spiritual practices. There will also definitely be a youth caucus this year, although they are still figuring out what form that will take. Having a separate space for youth during General Sessions to discuss and organize is a priority.”
Delegates– if you have an interest in being a youth delegate for GA, that’s still an option! Please read about the role here and then reach out to me!
SO MUCH More information about GA: can be found on the UUA website
Please send along any questions/or ideas! Parents, let me know if you are planning to attend, too!
